Drawing Near in Faith

July 11, 2020

Our Faith

Faith. It is the assurance of things hoped for and the conviction of things not seen.[1]Now, we exercise faith in many ways throughout our lives but it is what we have faith in that will make a difference.

The world is currently facing a myriad of different things where faith is required. For example, some are placing their faith in their jobs, savings, or good health, believing those things will provide security as a pandemic rocks every part of the globe. Others are putting their faith in people and social media, hoping that staying connected will get them through this difficult time of social distancing. Likewise, some have faith in taking a stand or placing a vote, trusting that change will eventually come. Quite frankly, many of us find ourselves fluctuating between placing our faith in all of these things at various times.

God can certainly use all these examples as ways that God can show His goodness towards people, but to set our hope on any of these things that are constantly changing will not satisfy us nor can they provide us any kind of certainty. Hebrews 13:8 states, Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, and today, and forever. Yet, believing in Jesus is the way we can experience certainty in a world that is so unpredictable. Faith in Christ is the only way we can have confidence before a holy God once this world passes away.

Our Reward

And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him.

Hebrews 11:6

Many people may say that they believe there is a God. That is only knowledge. In order to have a faith that pleases God, we must also believe there is a reward for seeking after Him. That reward is not just knowing or hoping that we will go to heaven. Our reward is finding God Himself.2

There is also a sobering reality to not having faith in Christ that leads to God, which is passing away along with this world that is only here for a moment. Our time here is short and this world will one day come to an end. Our decision of faith is one that has eternal significance. My hope is that while we can, that we would seek and find God maybe it is for the first time or it is that we are continuing to diligently seek Him daily. Whatever your case is, let’s all draw near to Him.

I bought this Better study on the book of Hebrews by Jen Wilkin at the start of the year. Under current circumstances, it was timely and encouraging to read through.

Scripture workbook with bible verses on character to build faith

Quarantine challenged me to get creative with the little ones too. Challenge accepted! This Scripture workbook by The Daily Grace Company is great for kiddos to practice handwriting or scripture memorization.

Horizons preschool curriculum for threes

Along with keeping young kids busy at home, this Bible-based curriculum is great for those now schooling at home. It’s a workbook with perforated pages you can tear out that includes ideas for crafts and activities too. We got some good use out of this one!
